Welcome to Carrot Documentation

Carrot is an toolset for mapping and transforming health data to the OMOP Common Data Model, in a secure way enabling collaboration and reusability.

Carrot consists of two tools: Carrot Mapper for generating mapping rules, and Carrot Transform for transforming the data using those rules.

The Carrot toolset is open source under an MIT License and available on Github, we also use Github discussions, have monthly Community Meetings, and a public roadmap.

The Carrot toolset separates the mapping and transforming of data, enabling OMOP expertise to contribute to mapping data outside of a data partners local environment. This approach enables wider collaboration and sharing of mapping rules, in a safe and secure way.

Carrot uses OHDSI WhiteRabbit as the recommended metadata profiling tool.

At a glance, the diagram below shows the functions of Carrot Mapper (steps 3-5) and Carrot Transform (step 6) in the process of transforming data to OMOP CDM.

The Carrot tools depend on a set of data standards.
